NAID is an acronym for the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID).  Then NAID merged with PRISM International, a trade association for Professional Records and Information Services Management, that provided a Privacy+ Certification program for companies in the commercial records and information management industry.  The entity  that was created became from the merger of NAID and PRISM International became known as i-SIGMA.

i-SIGMA stands for the International Secure Information Governance & Management Association.  And i-SIGMA is the industry trade association for secure data destruction, as well as records and information management service providers. The key role of i-SIGMA is to enforce standards and ethical compliance for nearly 2,500 service providers.  And i-SIGMA has global reach as these service providers are on six continents, and it currently maintains extremely rigorous and widely accepted data-security vendor-compliance certifications, namely, NAID AAA Certification and PRISM Privacy+ Certification.  Presently, hundreds of governments and thousands of private entities use these certification programs to meet their regulatory due diligence requirements. 

Hence, the NAID AAA Certification is a recognized and voluntary program for member companies providing information destruction services.  Service providers must meet necessary NAID AAA Certification specifications.  Additionally, as part of this certification program, they have to pass ongoing announced and unannounced audits to ensure their consistent compliance with all necessary deliverables and regulations. This certification meets clients’ regulatory due diligence on their behalf.
